Dental crowding

Dental crowding is caused by a discrepancy between the size of the teeth (too large) and the size of the jaws bone (too small), due to hereditary factors.
Some of the malocclusions with dental crowding are due to early loss of milk teeth. When milk teeth fall out prematurely, the permanent molars move forward, stealing space from the permanent premolars and causing overlapping of the canines and incisors. Regular visits to the dentist from the age of 5 years and the treatment of deciduous teeth considerably reduce dental crowding in permanent dentition.
Dental crowding is treated with orthodontic fixed appliances, or with clear aligners (Invisalign). The type of treatment depends on the severity of each individual case.

Case: Severe crowding treated with fixed appliances. Well-aligned teeth are easier to clean, and are less prone to tooth decay and gum disease.
