Dr. Daniele Cantarella is specialist in Orthodontics. Graduated in Dentistry at the University of Padua, he obtained the Advanced Clinical Training in Orthodontics and the Master of Science in Oral Biology in the United States at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA). He then specialized in Orthodontics at the University of Ferrara.
His research, conducted at UCLA together with Prof. Won Moon, identified for the first time the effects of skeletal maxillary expansion on the sutures of the midface in the adult, on the nasal cavity and their implications on respiration. These researches have been published in the main orthodontic journals, American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Progress in Orthodontics, and in 2019 they received the FEO Award, prize from the European Federation of Orthodontics for the best scientific publication.
Dr. Cantarella has been using Prof. Moon’s Maxillary Skeletal Expander (MSE) technique for several years in the growing patient, in Class III malocclusions and in the adult patient. Cantarella Dental Clinic is a reference center in Italy and in Europe for these problems.
The fixed orthodontic technique used is the one developed by Dr. McLaughlin and Bennett, with whom Dr. Cantarella has been collaborating for several years, after the two-year Master’s degree obtained at the Orthodontic Center of Dr. Richard McLaughlin in San Diego, USA.
Dr. Cantarella is a member of the main Orthodontic societies such as the Italian Society of Orthodontics (SIDO), Italian Academy of Orthodontics (AIDOR), E.H. Angle Society of Orthodontists Component of Southern California, USA, and is a speaker at numerous courses and conferences on orthodontics in Italy and abroad.
He contributed to the research and development of orthodontic techniques and appliances, some of which he patented. Together with Prof. Won Moon, he developed the digital method of planning maxillary skeletal expansion (MSE) on miniscrews using 3D digital cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) radiology, a protocol which is now used all over the world.
Dr. Cantarella is reviewer for important international journals of Orthodontics, visiting lecturer in Orthodontics at Italian Universities, practices Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, using functional appliances, orthopedic appliances, fixed appliances, miniscrews (skeletal anchorage), invisible aligners, such as Invisalign and lingual appliances.
